How does contemporary representation compare to previous times?

One way contemporary media compares to previous times is through class, media today still has strong focus on representing class, e.g. Fish tank - lower class is represented with living in poor conditions, no respect from parents and children, language, and clothing.
In the 1960s class was a social problem, people wouldn't socialize with lower classes, this is represented in Coronation Street with the traveller, no one wants to serve him or talk to him at the pub because he has a Irish accent and rough clothing/ living conditions.

Class is represented well in Strykers theory of Identity & Labels, the outcome of Fishtank made the media more aware of  teenage hoodlum behaviour, and labelled lower class familys in London with no family unit, and poor living conditions with know morals.
It also stereotyped council estate Londoners as thugs, as the teens were all criminals, fighters, with outcome of fearing London more in the modern era.

Coronation Street is represented as a friendly environment, as they all look out for each within each class, e.g. Albert who had agrophobia had a young friend tend to him every day, doing his shopping and cleaning etc looking out for him.
However people only looked out for people within there own classes, this is shown when Tommy the traveller  sends a secret love letter to Ann(?), she expects it to be a rich man as it is written in good handwriting, and then she finds out its from the traveller she wants nothing to do with him.
Tommy is labelled as lower class in Corrie this has influenced the media, as travellers are still stereotyped today as Tommy was in Corrie.

This is represented in Fish Tank when Mia tries to liberate the horse, and is manhandled by gypsy men, further more this representation that they are criminals and have no respect for the law and genders.
